Orphans & Foster Care

'Oliver Twist'

Another Dickens novel,
became a movie in several releases/adaptations from 1909 through 2021.

Every fatherless human should read 'Oliver Twist',
or watch the movie. (the book is very word-ey, in older English)
I won't explain the plot. Watch it unfold for yourself.
You may find it relevant,
especially if you were without both parents and extended family.
Like in foster care.

Again, the topic of orphanance is more than I can tackle in this website,
but I want to acknowledge that we know you exist.
We know you have things to work through to become who you ought to be.

And we hope for the best for each of you,
and I think this website might help you.

Ironically, Charles Dickens was a real scoundrel in real life,
wreaking havoc on his own children's lives - because of his lust for other women.
Study his biography and vow not to be like him.
Perhaps his writings were an attempt to sooth his guilty conscience,
and the evil characters were created to make someone else look worse than himself, eh?

Foster Care

When I was a child in rural Iowa, we had neighbors up the hill.
The husband was a farm worker, and his wife took in girls for foster care.
The couple, Ernie and Estle, were like an uncle and aunt to me.
I rode the school bus with the girls for 10 years.
One girl was my age, and we were playpals when younger.

Though many people don't think about it, foster care is another form of fatherlessness.
If dad did what dads are supposed to do, these kids wouldn't be in foster care.
(A lot of US single-parent homes are single-parent, dad-homes)
Yet people tend to focus on the failure of the mother when pondering foster care.

And foster care is a tough life in its own way, because in every instance of foster placement,
quiet considerations are made about the quality of the child's bio-family.
And this has to affect the disposition of the child.

I don't have a quick, easy solution for this,
but I wanted to acknowledge that this pain exists in the hearts of kids in foster care.
